February 2006
I will be at Nietzsche's
Thursday Feb. 2nd from 10pm until we all get tired.

Peter, at the Dakota Grill/Cigar Bar, wasn't sure about booking me every Saturday, so we are "playing it by ear". I will be there again, however, Saturday Feb. 4th at 8pm.

Don't forget SPOT Coffee in Buffalo, NY on Feb. 8th at 8pm.

SPOT Coffee in Rochester,NY asked me back to play Feb. 12th 8pm., and also March 12th 8pm. Both days are Sundays.

I auditioned for a paid position with the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, and have begun preparing with them for a concert on February 18, 2006 (8pm) at Kleinhan's Music Hall with Soprano Renee Fleming. Music of Elgar, Verdi and Mozart (Happy Birthday Wolfgang!)

January 2006
Now for the news:

;~) I played a spur of the moment show last Friday 1/6 at the Dakota Grille and Cigar Bar. Between the combined efforts of the magic trick wielding waiter, the dark and beautiful twin servers named Laura, the desperate housewives at table 6, "Sweet" Lorraine and her (hopefully lucky) date, my jolly posse, three power outages, and the horny couple dry humping at the bar, I believe a great time was shared by all. The Cigar Bar, by the way, is one of the only spots in town where the non-smokers have to step outside to breathe fresh air, while the smokers remain comfortably seated inside.

I hope to play there again soon.

;~) I will be on TV Cable channel 13 on Monday 1/16 at 3pm, and 5pm with members of the Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus to promote their upcoming concerts:

Friday 1/20 - 8pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo - Elmwood Ave. @ West Ferry Saturday 1/21 - 8pm at Tmple Beth Zion - 805 Delaware Ave. (near Summer St.)

;~) I will play SPOT COFFEE at Delaware Ave. @ Chippewa in Buffalo on weds. 2/8 from 8pm-10pm, and *Vicky Vogue's Cabaret on 2/25.

*(I will get more specific info about this one)

;~) People Art Coffee House is booked for 3/31 starting at 9pm. Come to the Unity Church basement on Delaware Ave. at Auburn.

November 2005
Well, hmm...let me see,There are no upcoming "shows" other than:
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Buffalo Choir performance of the Bach-Magnificat with yours truly as the Tenor soloist on December 4, Sunday, from 11am. Corner of Elmwood Ave. and West Ferry St. in Buffalo. Get there early.

I have been working feverishly 4 hours each week to record and produce new material for the second cd, optimistically scheduled for release next Halloween 2006. I may be able to post a couple of preview songs already recorded with my man Phil the Squid.

The "no payments until next year" loan I took out to buy my new Martin acoustic guitar is going to want my money soon. I must hide.

I'm not sure that I am actually saving any money by switching to Geico, and although the funny commercials are some consolation, I will soon need to put new snow tires on the car that I've been borrowing from the bank, and that's not funny.
To quote myself: "another thing about money that really isn't that funny is...how it doesn't exist in Real Life.

I suppose, if I had enough energy left over after working 40+ hours a week with developmentally disabled adults, and then coming home to a house full of children, who are a lot like developmentally disabled adults sometimes, I might try to play out more. It would help to supplement the money I am probably not really saving by switching to Geico. I've just not had the energy lately, and I do feel guilty about it, so please don't yell at me. I'm pacing myself.

February 2004
Michael will be playing out for the first time in awhile on Friday, February 13, 2004. See shows for info.

Feb. 24, 2003
Getting back to work in the studio toward the next record.  I have works started with Tobias Paul in Buffalo, NY., with Phil Broikos in Syracuse, NY., and I have thrown my name in the hat for David Fridmann in Cassadaga, NY.  He said "yes", but then we have to wait for sometime when he will have sometime.  My drummer, Christopher Swist, has been gathering recording expertise and equipment as well, and I have a few songs started with him that might make it to the sophmore release.  You will have to wait and hear.

Moses Hogan died at age 45 in New Orleans, LA.  This is sad news.  He was a great pianist and composer/arranger/ conductor of choral music specializing in exciting modern arrangements of negro spirituals.  NOLA.com: Obituaries   Several vocal groups, including the choir I perform with, will be participating in a tribute concert to this man and his work.  It will be in Buffalo, NY in May 2003.  I will keep you posted with details as I get them.

Dec. 22, 2002
Mary is taking back over my website, so soon I will tell her some of my news and it will be up to date.

March 15, 2002
Michael Arden's debut CD is currently on sale at CDbaby.com, New World Record, Borders Books and Music, and Terrapin Station. In-Studio production is underway for sophomore CD with producer Tobias Paul.

Michael has recently completed voice-over work for a children's audio story called "Abbazoo" - written by local author Damien Failla. Michael plays the voice of "The Owl".

During the production of "Abbazoo", Michael met actor/director Pat Armstrong (voice of "Na-Na Goat") who invited him to become involved with Playback Buffalo. An improvisational theater company - doing work with Hospice, Transition Services, and Vive La Casa. Michael has done two performances with this group so far, primarily as the "musician" - providing sound effects and incidental music to support the story being "played back" by the actors.

The U.U. Church choir is currently preparing for a Spring Concert performance of Faure's "Requiem - Op. 48" on 3/24/02. This is Palm Sunday on the calendar. This piece will be performed as part of the Sunday morning service, 11am-12pm, at the Church located at Elmwood Ave. @ West Ferry. Be sure to arrive early if you are planning to attend.

Michael has been going to the Gym for the past three months with regularity. He is beginning to look trim and buff. He has grown some hair on his chin, and trimmed his sideburns. His hair still grows long, despite a receding hairline, which makes him look intellectually mature. He is searching for hip-looking, nerd glasses to complete his disguise. Something like the ones Michael Douglas wore in the movie "Falling Down". Or, maybe, heavy plastic frames like the ones (I've been told) are sold at Army-Navy surplus stores. Suggestions as to where to shop (low-budget), or actual frame donations readily accepted and much appreciated. Please email information to ardensong@aol.com.

For the past five (or more) years, when friends would inquire as to "What's up?" I would redundantly respond with "I'm working on my CD". Now with the release of these new recordings, I feel like I can finally reapply myself to, and begin to discuss, something new.
